Diagnosing Inkjet Banding Without Random Adjustments
Record the banding pattern, run the prescribed diagnostic checks and change one variable at a time. Different causes can produce similar-looking lines.

Capture a useful baseline
Save the file, print mode and media information and photograph the defect at a useful scale. Compare the nozzle-check result with the machine instructions. Note whether the problem follows the artwork, repeats across the media or appears only under one mode.
Test a single explanation
Use a known test file and the approved media setup. Follow the manufacturer’s alignment or feed procedures where indicated. Keep before-and-after output instead of altering several RIP controls at once. Escalate unresolved defects with the complete record.
Production checklist
Use these checkpoints to prepare a trial or discuss the configuration with your supplier. Record the result for each item before approving a production change.
- Defect photo and job file
- Nozzle-check result
- Media and mode record
- One-variable comparison
Does banding always mean a damaged printhead?
No. Several workflow or device conditions can look similar. Use the specified diagnostics before making a replacement decision.
