Build a transparent worksheet

Start with blank cost and the consumables used by the actual artwork. Add pretreatment, labor minutes, finishing, packaging and allocated operating costs. Keep estimated figures separate from values measured in a trial.

Use the accepted-output denominator

Divide the relevant batch cost by garments accepted for delivery rather than the number loaded into the printer. Review expensive defects and setup losses separately. A low ink estimate can hide a costly handling or rejection problem.

Production checklist

Use these checkpoints to prepare a trial or discuss the configuration with your supplier. Record the result for each item before approving a production change.

  • Blank and consumable cost
  • Preparation and finishing labor
  • Maintenance allocation
  • Accepted output and reprints

Is ink cost the same as garment printing cost?

No. Ink is only one input. A useful quote includes the complete production process and the cost of delivering acceptable garments.
