DTG printing
DTG vs DTF: Choosing a Garment Printing Workflow
Choose between DTG and DTF by comparing your fabrics, order sizes, desired finish and handling stages. A machine-only comparison misses much of the production decision.

Map the order mix
List garment compositions, colors, print placements and reorder frequency. Ask for the same artwork on representative garments using both workflows. Compare appearance and feel after the relevant finishing steps, not just after printing.
Measure complete order time
Record file preparation, garment handling, printing, finishing and inspection. Consider where transfers offer scheduling flexibility and where direct garment printing fits the product. A shop may use both methods if its order mix justifies the training and consumable inventory.
Production checklist
Use these checkpoints to prepare a trial or discuss the configuration with your supplier. Record the result for each item before approving a production change.
- Representative garments
- Matched artwork samples
- Total handling time
- Finished appearance and care results
Is one method always better for a small business?
No. Order mix and process discipline matter more than a universal winner. Choose using samples and realistic production trials.
